Zoom with Dogs - FAQs
Q. How do I Sign Up for a Zoom Session?
Click on the link Sign Up! for available dates/times. Please allow us 24 hours notice prior to each sign-up. The evening before your session we will send a link to the Pawfect Endings Zoom Room. At the time of your session, click the link, and we’ll see you there!
Email Donna at donna@pawfectendings.org if you don’t see a date/time that works for you. We’ll get back to you ASAP to try and find a day/time that does!
Every session is scheduled for 30 minutes. Your child can use as much or as little of the time as they like.
Q. What is Zooming with Dogs?
Our Zoom Rooms offer opportunities for kids to practice reading, speaking, and/or performing in a stress- free, judgement-free environment. Kids practice, we listen.
Q. What can my child practice in the Zoom Room?
Zooming with dogs is a great way to practice anything!
Reading aloud to the dogs is the most popular activity.
Performing to the dogs might include practicing an instrument or lines for a play.
Speaking to the dogs might include practicing a presentation for a class.
Check out these videos to see for yourself.
Q. How does “Zooming with Dogs” promote learning?
Our approach promotes consistent practice. First and foremost, our Zoom Room is a place kids like to visit.
Our approach promotes independent practice. Zoomers choose their own materials and manage their time in the Zoom room as they please.
Our approach promotes connection. After each session we send our Zoomers a supplemental activity or note directly relating to the reading they’ve shared.
Check out our blog Dog Diaries for some examples.
Q. What are the benefits of virtual practice?
Being virtual makes practice with us EASY! Our sessions are not dependent on weather conditions, access to transportation or a specific location.
Being virtual makes scheduling more flexible. This flexibility allows us to find times that work for you and your child.
Being virtual allows children who love dogs but are allergic or who might be afraid of dogs opportunities to connect with a new furry friend.
Being virtual is COVID safe.
Q: Where should my child be during their Zoom session?
Wherever is comfortable for them.
Q: Are the dogs listening?
Our dogs seem to really enjoy their Zoom time. Dogs can be comforted by the sound of a person’s voice and by music as well. They enjoy quiet time on their pillow and they seem very relaxed and content during Zoom sessions. And I know that being with animals, even over Zoom, can help people feel that way too.
Q: Why is there a person on the Zoom session?
A volunteer is there to ensure the session runs smoothly. They will help start and end the session, troubleshoot technology issues, answer any questions you or your child might have, and keep eyes on the doggie listener (dogs can lose focus sometimes, just like us). Sometimes that means the volunteer needs to sit with the dog, sometimes the dog can sit alone.
The volunteer will not be present on your child’s screen unless they request a human listener too :)
